George C. Brandt, Inc. was founded in St. Paul , Minnesota by Lyman A. Moore in 1894 and was originally named L.A. Moore and Co. The Company was engaged in the business of brokering pigments and oils used in the paint products of that time. George C. Brandt, Sr. joined Mr. Moore (his father-in-law) as a warehouse man and eventually took over the business upon the premature death of Lyman Moore in 1923.
George Sr. incorporated the Company in the State of Minnesota in 1924 under its present day name.
George C. Brandt, Inc. was appointed a sales agent for Reichhold Chemicals, Inc. in 1930. Reichhold was the first producer of synthetic resins in the United States which replaced slow drying natural oils in the paint and coatings industry. This association with Reichhold fueled the growth of the Brandt Co. for several decades. It allowed George Sr. to bring his four sons into the business and expand into the Chicago , Kansas City and Denver areas. Also, during that time many other leading chemical, container and equipment manufacturers assigned their sales and distribution rights to the Brandt Co. The long term relationship with Reichhold and most of the other manufacturers continues today.
In the early 1970's the next generation of Brandt's became involved in the business and by the middle 1980's had been given control of the business by their fathers and uncles. Through acquisitions the Company expanded into St. Louis , Missouri and Albuquerque , New Mexico . A subsidiary company, Brandt and Associates, Ltd., was established in Pontiac , Michigan during 1990.
In the year 2003, George C. Brandt, Inc. celebrated it's 109th anniversary.
Presently, George C. Brandt, Inc. is managed by J. Chris Brandt and George A.C. Brandt, II. They also serve as Directors along with James M. Brandt, Jr.
J. Chris Brandt has been employed by George C. Brandt, Inc. for twenty-eight years. His time is spent on sales and company operations, as well as the management of most principals (manufacturers we represent).
George A.C. Brandt, II has been employed by the Company for twenty-five years. He concentrates on sales and management of certain principals.
The Company operates sales offices in St. Paul , Minnesota ; Kansas City , Missouri ; Denver , Colorado ; St. Louis , Missouri ; and Albuquerque , New Mexico . Warehouse stocks are maintained at each of these locations.
